11th President of the United States JAMES K. POLK striking reproduction CDV portrait from an original daguerrotype in Matthew Brady's National Portrait Gallery, featuring authentic cut signature autograph affixed at bottom, signed as "James K. Polk" with elegant flourish beneath.
With small traces of printing beneath, the signature was almost certainly removed from a Polk appointment signed as President.
The copy of the circa 1845 - 1849 image depicts Polk, seated facing right in a half length portrait, and was widely reproduced by legendary Civil War photographer Matthew Brady. It is said that the original image was retouched to make the President's appearance somewhat softer to the general public.
