$495.00
Guaranteed Authentic
Distinguished Colonial American Painter JOHN TRUMBULL best known for his vivid historical scenes scarce Bank of New York check stock signed "Jno. Trumbull", dated November 12, 1821. Trumbull writes a check to John P. Groshon for $26.00. It's possible that this is the same John Pierre Groshon, who was the former Church Clerk for Trinity Church in New York, where Trumbull spent most of the rest of his life.
Known as the "Painter of the Revolution", like many artists of the early-Federal period, Trumbull's name is perhaps not one immediately recognized by most Americans. However, his paintings easily are: the portrait of Hamilton that adorns the ten-dollar bill, the four large history paintings in the Capitol Rotunda, including the epic "Declaration of Independence" (from the back of the $2 bill), and for his 16 detailed portraits of George Washington. As a soldier in the American Revolutionary War, Trumbull even witnessed the Battle of Bunker Hill and was appointed second aide-de-camp to Washington.
