Legendary American actor and Hollywood icon JOHN WAYNE authentic early autograph Argosy Pictures contract on onion skin paper for the 1948 blockbuster, "Fort Apache". Wayne signs at lower left with a now-faded signature, deferring half of his then $100,000 dollar salary for a percentage of the film's profits. ($100k in 1947 is today's equivalent of roughly $1.5 million).
"War Party" was the 1947 working title for the 1948 John Ford-directed classic Western, "Fort Apache" which starred Wayne alongside Henry Fonda and 19-year old Shirley Temple. A cornerstone of Ford's "Cavalry Trilogy", the story highlights the clash of ideologies regarding Native Americans and Army regulations. Wayne plays the level-headed Captain Kirby York while Fonda plays the arrogant Colonel Owen Thursday.
One of the few, true Wayne signed movie contracts to come to market from his storied movie career and among his finest performances, consistently ranked among his Top Ten films.
