Guaranteed Authentic
French General and American Revolutionary War hero, MARQUIS DE LAFAYETTE partly printed hand-signed 1790 Paris National Guard official military brevet as "Lafayette", promoting Matthieu Solle to the rank of Sergeant in the fusiliers (or infantry) as of November 1789. Co-signed "Bailly" by Jean-Sylvain Bailly. Countersigned by the town clerk, Louis-Jean-Baptiste Boucher de Bonneval on behalf of the Mayor of Paris.
Following his heroic service in both the American Revolution, Lafayette returned to France, and the day after the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789 was appointed commander of the National Guard, against the wishes of the king. This appointment put him in charge of maintaining order in Paris, and he played a decisive role in the early days of the French Revolution. Lafayette later faced financial ruin after the turmoil of the French Revolution and his eventual imprisonment during the Reign of Terror.
