The dramatic portrait of then-elder statesman Fillmore dates from a circa 1864 portrait session with renowned Civil War photographer Matthew Brady. Fillmore had previously been President from 1850 - 1853. Fillmore wrote in a letter that Brady's was his favorite photograph of himself, but added that "I cannot judge of it myself, as no man can form a correct judgment in such a case."
Condition is as shown. Reproduction CDV with cut signature measures appx. 2.75" x 4.75" inside 4.25" x 7.25" encapsulate. The cut signature is a near perfect example of Fillmore's handwritten letter "M" spliced together with his handwritten last name.
