Irvin played in both the Negro leagues and Major League Baseball with the Newark Eagles, New York Giants and Chicago Cubs. When he joined the Giants, Irvin became one of the earliest African-American MLB players. He played in two World Series for the Giants, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973.
