Guaranteed Authentic
An important regional appointment signed by NAPOLEON during the ill-fated "100 Days" campaign spanning Napoleon's return from exile – signed by Napoleon one month before his defeat at Waterloo.
NAPOLEON BONAPARTE, brief letter signed as Emperor of France dated May 2, 1815 recommending to appoint a Count Pierre-Agathange Odier-Laplaine as Inspector/Prefect. The letter is handwritten by a secretary, but is boldly and authentically signed by Napoleon himself at the conclusion with a beautiful, dramatic flourish. Regional prefects are tasked with upholding the law in the region they serve, including those of local authorities.
The "Hundred Days" as it came to be called, marked the period between Napoleon's return from eleven months of exile on the island of Elba to Paris and includes the ill-fated Waterloo campaign. The defeat at Waterloo precipitated Napoleon's second and definitive abdication as Emperor. Documents signed by Napoleon from this period are amongst the most coveted by collectors.
