Founding Father, fiery Revolutionary orator, and first Governor of Virginia PATRICK HENRY scarce signed Virginia land grant, accomplished on vellum and bearing Henry’s bold signature at lower right as Governor. A large-format colonial-era document conferring a parcel of Virginia land, complete with the original embossed wax-and-paper Commonwealth seal still affixed at lower left. A substantial and display-worthy piece of Early American history. The document granted land to John Boggs who served as a Captain in the Delaware Militia during the revolutionary war.
The grant is executed on original 18th-century vellum, as was customary for important state instruments of the period. Henry’s signature is strong and fully intact. Folds, toning, and areas of handling wear are present as shown, typical of vellum land grants of this age. The large embossed paper seal remains impressively preserved. Document measures approx. 14.5” x 15”.
