Superb Large Format Matthew Brady Albumen Print Signed By Robert E Lee

Confederate General and military commander ROBERT E. LEE scarce large format albumen print signed neatly by Lee below his image "R. E. Lee". This historic photograph is one of six exposures made by Brady in Washington, D.C. in 1866 and is one of the rarest Brady from-life photographs of Lee in existence. In 2020, an unsigned version of this same portrait sold for $5,120. One of the scarcest photos of Lee authentically signed by the confederate general! 

Printed below the mounted photograph is the caption "BRADY & CO. Entered according to Act of Congress in the Clerks Office for District of Columbia Washington, D.C."

Condition as shown, foxing and stains, throughout image and mount. Image itself still remains clear and sharp. One tear to top of mount, margins irregularly trimmed, consistent with the age, use, storage and handling of a nearly 160 year old photo. Photo measures appx. 8" x 9.75" inside 10" x 13" encapsulate.
