Guaranteed Authentic
Ill-fated vanished Polar Explorer Captain ROBERT FALCON SCOTT scarce handwritten letter of reference dated March 23, 1909 from Scott's flagship, HMS Bulwark, providing a reference for Charles Hill, his ship's Cook, and signed at conclusion as "R. Scott, R(oyal) N(avy).
Scott led two legendary expeditions to the Antarctic regions: the DISCOVERY expedition of 1901 - 1904 when he set a new southern record by marching to latitude 82ºS and discovered the Antarctic Plateau on which the South Pole is located; And the ill-fated TERRA NOVA expedition of 1910 - 1913 where Scott led a party of five to the South Pole in January 1912 with disastrous consequences, resulting in the deaths of Scott and his men on the return journey. Scott and his team would finally be found some 8 months after vanishing on November 12, 1912. They are buried in the snow-covered tent where they were found.
Scott writes:
"H.M.S. Bulwark / March 23, 1909
This is to certify that Charles Hill has served as my cook in HMS ships Essex and Bulwark since Jan 29th 1905. He is sober and honest – and a good clean cook.
R. Scott
Captain R.N."
