EARLY 1831 LAND GRANT FOR THE COLONIZATION OF TEXAS

Original 1831 printed document partially filled in by clerical hand certifying a land grant to H. A. Green, issued under the authority of the government of the State of Coahuila and Texas as well as the United States of Mexico. This certificate offered the recipient a whopping 4,428 acres of land or nearly 7 square miles of land.

Dominguez, a resident of Mexico City, was granted his colonization contract on February 6, 1829, and was to bring 200 American and European settlers to Texas within a period of six years. No colonists actually moved to Texas and the grant expired in 1835.

Land grants of this era predating Texas independence are exceptionally scarce and highly desirable, representing the earliest phase of Anglo-American settlement in Mexican Texas. A superb, investment-grade artifact of Southwestern and Texas history.

Printed on onion skin paper. Document measures approx. 8” x 14”. Toning, folds, a few areas of paper loss, and scattered foxing consistent with age, but overall very well-preserved with strong legibility throughout.

Sold as is, as shown.
