Thomas Jefferson Official Act of Congress Signed - Original Founding-Era Legislation on Federal Infrastructure & Commerce
American founding father and third President, Thomas Jefferson, stunning boldly signed "True Copy" of an Act of the Second Congress titled "An Act to Amend the Act for the Establishment and Support of Light-Houses, Beacons, and Public Piers". The July 22, 1790 Act amended earlier legislation to refine and expand federal control over lighthouses, buoys, and other navigation aids, placing their maintenance and operation firmly under national authority. Jefferson signs with a large and bold signature at the conclusion of the act.
A very rare printing of an early United States law establishing one of the first U.S. federal infrastructure systems. The document additionally bears the printed signatures of President George Washington, Speaker of the House of Representatives Frederick Muhlenberg, and Vice-President John Adams. This act helped set the precedent for centralized government responsibility in interstate commerce.
