The envelope features Grant's distinctive letter "G" formation from his signature in the written word, "Galina". Grant has further struck through the "Official Business" notation on the envelope.
Dated March 8 from Washington, the envelope was written during the country's post-war, Grant-supervised Reconstruction period in 1867.
