Beloved American Poet WALT WHITMAN short handwritten receipt annotated as "W.W.". Whitman pens, "WW's complete works / sent to Prof Cook / Received Payment / $6.40". 

Whitman, considered one of the most influential poets in American literature, is also remembered for the care he gave to thousands of sick and injured soldiers in Washington, D.C. hospitals during the Civil War.
