EXCEPTIONAL VON BRAUN AUTOGRAPHED SOUVENIR SATURN 5 ROCKET SCHEMATIC SIGNED TO UNITED STATES SECRETARY OF DEFENSE
German and American aerospace engineer Dr. WERNHER VON BRAUN authentic autograph souvenir Apollo SATURN V rocket schematic print. Von Braun signs the page, "To Clark / With Best Wishes / Wernher Von Braun", and then adds "9-18-64 / Cape Kennedy / MILA Launch Area". An exceptionally important autograph from Von Braun to the United States Secretary of Defense, Clark W. Clifford.
Clark W. Clifford was the United States Secretary of Defense under President Lyndon B. Johnson, succeeding Robert McNamara.
September 18, 1964 marked the successful launch of SA-7, the seventh flight of the Saturn I launch vehicle which carried the boilerplate (non-functional model) Apollo 15 spacecraft BP-15 into low Earth orbit. The test took place on September 18, 1964, lasting for five orbits (about seven and a half hours). The spacecraft and its upper stage completed 59 orbits before reentering the atmosphere and crashing in the Indian Ocean on September 22, 1964. The MILA (Merritt Island Launch Annex) had dedicated generators used for tracking operations for a rocket launch or landing.
Built specifically to send people to the moon, the Saturn V was used exclusively during the Apollo missions, and was successfully launched 13 times from the Kennedy Space Center without any loss of payload or crew. It was later used to launch the Skylab space station.
