RARE WILLIAM McKINLEY PARTIAL HANDWRITTEN LEGAL PETITION – EARLY CAREER DOCUMENT FROM HIS LAW PRACTICE, c. 1870s
Exceptional handwritten partial legal document penned by future 25th President of the United States, WILLIAM McKINLEY during his early career as an attorney in Ohio. McKinley signs with his full signature as "William McKinley Jr". Later in his presidency he would shorten his signature and drop the "Jr". He additionally adds "att[orne]y for pl[ain]t[i]ff" below his signature, and closes with a terrific flourish.

McKinley first built his reputation as a lawyer and Civil War veteran before entering politics. Later, as America’s 25th President, he guided the nation through a period of immense change at the dawn of the 20th century, overseeing victory in the Spanish-American War, the annexation of overseas territories, and the rapid growth of American industry before his tragic assassination in 1901.

Handwriting still remains remarkably bold and legible.
