RARE WILLIAM McKINLEY PARTIAL HANDWRITTEN LEGAL PETITION – EARLY CAREER DOCUMENT FROM HIS LAW PRACTICE, c. 1870s

Lengthy handwritten partial legal document penned by future 25th President of the United States, WILLIAM McKINLEY during his early career as an attorney in Ohio. Approximately 30 lines on two sides in McKinley's flowing script regarding a lawsuit over the building and manufacturing of wrought iron bridges in McKinley's hometown of Canton, Ohio. Canton was the home of the Wrought Iron Bridge Company, a bridge manufacturer.

McKinley first built his reputation as a lawyer and Civil War veteran before entering politics. Later, as America’s 25th President, he guided the nation through a period of immense change at the dawn of the 20th century, overseeing victory in the Spanish-American War, the annexation of overseas territories, and the rapid growth of American industry before his tragic assassination in 1901.
