Signed by Paterson with a fine full signature at conclusion as "Wm Paterson", with flourish at bottom. With a partial signature in text as "Wm".
William Paterson is one of the rarest signers of the Constitution, and this is a fine example of his autograph. Paterson writes:
"In the action against you by Wm... I have received Notice of Trial for Monday the... in the Supreme Court at Trenton. Your Ob. Hb. Servt / Wm Paterson"
Born in Ireland, Paterson moved to the North American British colonies at a young age. Paterson was a well regarded American statesman, lawyer and jurist. He was also the second Governor of New Jersey. He was later nominated for the Supreme Court by President George Washington.
